“The protest territory” by Mikhail Gulin is determined by the local and international political situation. The peculiarities of the Belarusian legislation in the sphere of mass events, bans on photo and video in the city, preventive detentions of activists – all this deprived the right and opportunity of the artist to work in public space. Censorship and information silence make the artist’s work meaningless and ineffective, since publicity is one of the most important component in action art practice. Therefore, the author goes beyond the city limits and refuses any statement, while in his other video, “The Artist Barks, and the Train Goes,” even replaces this statement with barking.
