Calligraphy Workshop
Ruben Malayan will explore centuries of calligraphic practice within the Armenian cultural sphere. Little to nothing has been written or published about Armenian Calligraphy in almost a century and the intention of this presentation is to revive a dialogue between contemporary artists and this craft for art lovers and the general public. By bringing the art of calligraphy into the spotlight, we shall examine the historical circumstances surrounding the alphabet creation and embark on a brief journey through time, tracing the evolution of the hand drawn letterforms from early 5th century up until calligraphic volumes published by Mekhitarist’s fathers in Venice and Vienna.
